VALE - BARRY ROSENBERG

Barry joined the CMF in 1953 and was commissioned in 1957 into RAASC.

Following were postings to HQ 2 Div as Tpt Offr and  to 2 Air Supply Control Sect, firstly as a Junior Offr and finally as OC. It was during this period he was attached to the det 176 AD SQN SVN for 2 weeks as an observer. Barry later told me he spent most of the time doing hookups on CH47’s

Barry was promoted to Lt Col and posted as CO 8 Tpt Colm RACT in 1975 ( he also inherited a newly promoted Capt as his Adjt. – me  )

The following year saw the re org and the raising of 1 ATSR, 9 Tpt Regt and 10 Tml Regt. Barry was posted as SO1 Tpt ( A Res ) to 2 Tpt & Mov Gp HQ FF COMD, Commanded by the then Col DCJ Deighton MBE.

During this time Barry set up the first career planning program for A Res Offrs in NSW as well as trade training and promotion courses for NCO’s

Later postings were as Instr on the Combined Services Logistic Course and SO1 HQ COMM Z

Barry retired in 1984 to live in Atlanta USA  where he sadly passed away on 4th July

Along with outstanding leadership and management skills Barry was an astute businessman. He was General Manager of Unisearch which was a company set up to take research from the University of NSW and turn it into practical business enterprises. His successes saw operations worldwide.

His American wife was a native of Atlanta and this saw him relocate there. Such was his reputation that Georgia Tech immediately contracted him to a similar role to the one he had at Unisearch in Sydney. As expected he was immediately successful and spent more than 15 years there.

I spent time with him in Atlanta on 2 occasions in the early 1990’s and saw how happy and successful he was

Barry was an outstanding officer,  an all-round good bloke and a good friend. His enjoyment of Air Dispatch led him to transfer me to my first posting to 177 AD Sqn as Ops Offr where I instantly saw what I had been missing all those years. Also with Dennis Dray and Ned Miller looking over my shoulder.

Barry I’m going to miss you a lot, I really enjoyed our exchange of emails in recent years Rest In Peace mate
