Not so Well
The following is an update on members who are 'Not so Well' at present.
- February 8 - Trav is in the EDEN Rehab hospital in Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast in Qld. Address is 50 Maple St Cooroy. Phone number is 07 5472 6472 facsimile 07 5447 7592. He is in room 34 B and would love some phone calls or faxes . I reasonable expect all the earlier members of AD to contact him with a bit of a cheer up message. Visiting hours are after 3 PM weekdays and after noon weekends. This is apparently so it does not interfere with the rehab being carried out. I am planning to make a visit and give him a bit of a beating while he is down, no favourites, I will do the same for anyone else who needs it too (long as they cannot fight back). If anyone from the SE Qld area wants to accompany me please let me know ASAP this might be your chance to get even with Trav for his past injustices. Barry Gannon.
- February 3, 2010 - John Munt is currently in the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital (Syd Lingard Drive, Buderim) - no further details
- September 19 - Ray is now home from Hospital and will have to attend an outpatient clinic to do ongoing speech therapy. The occupational therapist believes that he will now get more value at home doing what comes naturally to get more definition and refinement in his right hand. He has sight impairment on his right side which may or may not improve over a long term – the impairment is more on perception than sight. He cannot gauge the distance between him and the object on his right side and can therefore walk into it or bump it as he doesn’t realise how close he is to it. So driving is out which means no more ‘road rage’, unless he decides to take up this occupation as a passenger!! I sincerely hope not, or he might be trying to write this update to let you know how I am going in a ‘mental institution’ as I have gone mad. Many thanks for all your enquiries and best wishes along our journey.

- September 1 - An Update on Ray’s progress. He is still in South Perth Hospital in the Rehab Unit doing occupational therapy to strengthen his right arm/hand and intense speech therapy. I am pleased to say that the hard work is paying off and his arm is good and his hand is slowly strengthening. He now able to string small sentences along but there is still a lot of hard work ahead to open pathways to the brain to enable him to find the words he looks for. This is very frustrating for him and we tend to play word charades quite a bit just so I can understand what he is saying. The word he says is sometimes not the word he means. Nevertheless he is progressing much faster that it was expected. -

- August 14 - Ray has left Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and is now in Gairdner Rehab which is located at South Perth Hospital. He is walking quite well and his right arm is also working well. His right hand is still giving him some trouble and he has a lot of work to do to get his speech up to a standard. All in all he is progressing extremely well. If his home visit works out for him this weekend, he may be home by Tuesday 18th.

- August 5 - Ray unexpectedly is progressing extremely well. He is starting to walk a little with some support and showering himself but his right arm and hand is still extremely weak. Verbalising is very difficult and practically non existence but anyone who knows him, has seen the many facial expressions he has whereby he can communicate what he is thinking. He is now on pureed foods. The family are extremely pleased with his progress. Many thanks for all enquiries and well wishes.
