AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT HELPING TELL THE UNTOLD STORY OF GALLIPOLI LANDINGS
The Australian Government will help fund a documentary capturing the previously untold story of the daring Australian landings at Gallipoli in 1915.
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, announced $80,000 would go towards the making of the documentary Gallipoli From Above, telling the story of how a team of Australian officers planned the perilous landings at Anzac Cove.
"Gallipoli From Above adds a compelling new dimension to the Gallipoli story by offering an insight into the ingenuity of the Australians in planning for the landing of 20,000 Anzac troops at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915,” Mr Snowdon said.
The documentary, produced by John Moore Productions, is based on the book written by Mr Hugh Dolan, 36 Days: The untold Story of the Gallipoli Landings.
It tells the story of how Australian General William Throsby Bridges and Colonel Brudenell White used aerial intelligence, emerging technology and innovative tactics to plan the Anzac Cove landings.
“The Australian Government is pleased to support a production that will offer a previously untold story of the planning of the Gallipoli landings to the Australian people in the lead up to our nation’s commemoration of the Anzac Centenary in 2015.”
Mr Snowdon said the funding was made possible under the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorations Program.
“The Saluting Their Service Commemorations Program helps communities to acknowledge and raise awareness of Australia’s wartime history through a variety of projects that ensure the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women is properly honoured and never forgotten,” Mr Snowdon said.
Gallipoli From Above will air on Foxtel’s History Channel on Anzac Day, 25 April 2012. A DVD will also be released by the ABC in April 2013 with a free to air screening expected in 2014.
