From Gary Cole (President, ADAA)

The Aerial Delivery fraternity has lost fine soldier, who continued to support the trade of AD both nationally and internationally right to the end.

Les Power had a chequered career - after serving as a Corporal he applied for The Officer Cadet School at Portsea and graduated in the class of 53. As a young  officer he served in a variety of postings including 13 and 18 National Service Bn’s then on to 1 Coy RAASC  followed by his entrance to the AD world.

The early sixties saw  the Power family moving to Virginia USA for 2 years of para rigging training at Fort Lee and then posted to AMTDU RAAF Richmond. During this period he was sent back to the testing unit in Yuma USA for Advanced training. Les was technically sound and was always on the rigging floor  passing on his skills to all ranks.

Les was posted to Svn in 1969 as DAQMG AFV but this did not stop him from getting out in the field to update himself on current operational AD rigging. Following Svn, Les was to return to Asia with the SEATO writing team to write the Air Support chapter.

The Highlight of Les’s career was being appointed the fist CO 1 Air Transport Support Regiment, he retired from this posting and went on to serve many years in the Army Reserve.

I have lost a longtime friend and join with the Power family at their loss, and I trust he keeps his feet and knees together for a safe landing.

Please convey my apologies to Les Powers wife whom I have known both for over 50 years. A truly wonderful guy who was a very sincere and humble person despite his achievements. I have his first copy of Customs of the Service that bares his signature. Please let me know where to forward it as the logistics Museum is not appropriate (ed - can anyone help here??)

I am unable to attend Les's Funeral due to distance. Please make my apologies to all.  Les and I go way back and I am saddened with the loss of a great bloke and friend and fellow soldier.
He is at peace with God and now doubt having a beer with our mates who went before him

From Ron McCaffery:

With great sadness Cecilia and I read your message about the passing of Les.  Another stalwart
has gone, one whose comittment and wholehearted support of all things AD, had to be seen
to be believed.  The Association shall be a sadder organisation without him.  May he Rest in Peace.
Please pass on our condolences to all Les's family.
Yours in sadness,
Ron & Cecilia

From Peter de Jeney:

Have a gentle breeze and a soft landing Les.

From Myles Johnson:

Indeed very sad.   I was privileged to have known him in the Service. I spoke with him last week - one of the toughest phone-calls I've ever made.
Thanks for informing us all.
